The Musings of a Motel Clerk

I have a routine.

1. I take over the day clerk's shift at precisely 9pm.
2. From 9pm to 11pm I try to waste as much time as possible. Most of this time is spent watching television or spending copious amounts of time on facebook. Once the clock hits 11pm, I lock up the motel and make my rounds to make sure no one is trying to burn down the place.
3. From 11pm to 1am I wait on the sofa usually in a partial comatose state and wait to see if there will be any late night rentals.
4. Once the clock hits 1am I head to bed and hopefully get a solid 5 hours of sleep.
5. I emerge from my luxurious slumber at exactly 6am. It is amazing how quickly time passes when you are barely awake. I am convinced it takes me 15-20 minutes to simply brush my teeth and splash water on my face.
6. At 6:20, I head to the cash float and do the previous days accounting, have all the paper work ready for the chambermaids and also the paperwork for all those who are checking out that day.
7. By this time it is somewhere between 7 and 7:15am. At precisely 7:15am I make coffee for the lobby area and sit and waste 15 minutes till I open.
8. 7:30am is the grand opening of our lobby. Usually nothing at all happens. I end up walking back into the suite and sitting on the couch literally doing nothing.
9. I continue to do nothing till 10am. 10am is when the chambermaid comes and I chat with whoever is on shift for about 3 minutes.
10. 10:03am I continue to do nothing. Maybe I'll get a few phone calls, usually by this time I will have checked out 1 or 2 people. If I turn on the television I will usually either watch the business news or reruns of the Cosby show. Has anyone else noticed that the later seasons of the Cosby show are just completely strange? I mean I casually watched an episode where Alvin, Bill and that marine dude where all giving birth!!!
11. 11am hopefully by this time everyone has checked out. 11am is great because Conan O'brien plays on Star TV. The hour between 11am till 12pm go by remarkably fast.
12. 12pm - 2pm is the bane of my existence. This is the longest two hours of any day. I keep telling myself to do something productive like read a book or at least do some push ups and sit ups. I am rarely productive. I spend time playing facebook tetris and watching the worst sitcom ever created. I believe it's called "Still Standing" and I also am starting to think that I have just been watching the same episode every day. Every episode is the same. All the punchlines are the same. It may not be the worst sitcom ever created but it is probably the most mundane mediocre sitcom ever created which in my books make it the WORST. Yet... I watch it religiously...
13. From 2pm - 9pm I have free time which usually involves me driving home, eating, sleeping and showering.
14. 9pm - repeat steps 1 to 14.

I promise I will do something different tomorrow. Maybe I really will read and exercise!

6 more days of this and then it's over.

That's a very happy thought.

I just wanted to make a new post. These are pictures of me running and jumping in a hallway of a hotel we stayed at in Beijing. The ceilings weren't very high and I was convinced I could smack them with my head.

that was a ridiculously weird hotel.

wilco wilco wilco

I think i will try and post more often.

I am really happy about seeing wilco live again. I am happier about meeting jeff tweedy and getting my photo taken with him.
I wish I had a scanner so i could post the picture.

The photo was taken with my new/old Lomo LCA. This camera right now, is my absolute favorite. The pictures are so freaking cool.

i will try and post some pictures some time.

But in the mean time, here are some pictures I took with our digital. I like these ones.

I don't really have anything to say. So here's a photo of me springing off of Mike's back.

Cheers!

the dan...the donald...the danold.

Today was one of those days where I came to work really ambitious about getting a whole slew of work finished. Needless to say... despite all my efforts... It didn't happen. (I know, I know, this is a reacurring pattern in my life.) But in all honesty, I really did have the determination to work like I do when I only have 3 hours left to finish a Theological research paper. Unfortunately, my day had plans of its own. I ended up stuck in meetings from 8am-2pm. Why can't the day call me up in the morning and say, "Hey dannyboy, it's 'Tuesday calling,' I've decided to screw up your entire day! Forget about being productive today, cause... it's not going to happen! It's never going to happen! Muahahahahahahahaah!" *Click* I wonder what a day of the week calling me would sound like? I assume it would be the same voice that's recorded in those electronic dictionaries... or maybe the voice of William Shatner! The Shat would most likely be the voice for 'Friday.'

In all honesty, the meetings weren't all that bad. In fact, I felt really good about being at work for a change. I felt like I was accomplishing something today. Eventhough I accomplished absolutely no real work at all, I felt like the conversations I had in the meetings were really quite meaningful.

My good friend Dan Donkers and I were talking about how he met Donald Miller. Both Dan and I have such high esteem for Mr. Miller. We both find his work remarkably intelligent and warm-hearted. I asked Dan, "What was meeting Donald Miller like?" He responded with how he was the type of guy that he wanted to befriend. I haven't even met the guy, but through reading his writings, I think I would come to the very same conclusion. I too would love to be friends with Donald Miller. In fact, if I ever do meet him, I would want to give him a CD of music he should listen to while he writes his next book. I think the CD would include the following:

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - (The entire self-titled album)
Wilco (Various tracks from Kicking Television and A Ghost is Born.)
Broken Social Scene - You forgot it in People
Elton John (Some of his earlier stuff)
Nick Drake - Bryter Lyter
Mojave 3 - Spoons and Rafters and Excuses for Travellers)
The Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl Vol 1 & 2
Bedhead - Exhume
In Medias Res - Of What Was
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

That's a good start I think. I'm pretty sure all this music just might overwhelm him.

...are you mineral?

I can't get over how awesome all the awesometown sketches are. Take forexample, the "Just2Guyz" rap. There aren't a lot of things funnier than two uber-nerdy guys singing about how good they are at partying. This rap is so hilarious on so many levels. For instance, the part where Jorma is says "Friends are everywhere" and the video shows a bunch of different rooms in a house, but the only person in all those rooms is Jorma, who by the way isn't doing anything remotely fun in any of the rooms. So genius!

If you haven't seen this sketch, you definately need to check it out: http://www.thelonelyisland.com/just2guyz.html

So why the new blog?
I wanted to continue the betavision blog, but I just couldn't do it. I guess I felt I needed to start something new. I just couldn't identify with most of the writing in that old blog.

I think I will use this blog to write simple ordinary events that take place in my life.
I've also been thinking a lot about photography. And by a lot, I mean, maybe about 60 percent of consciousness is spent on thinking and reading about photography and Digital SLR cameras.
So I'm hoping to start posting some pictures I've taken on this blog as well.
